Infusing Your Labor Day with Style

Often considered to be the “last hurrah” of summer, Labor Day weekend finds ladies everywhere with plans of lounging poolside, making one last trip to the lake, or hanging out at a family barbeque. With the peak of summer behind us and the the start of fall less than one month away (can you believe that?!), many are left to wonder what to wear in this weird, in-between-summer/in-between-fall time of year. How can you sport your favorite summer staples with an autumnal twist? I’ve put together some Labor Day-inspired looks, perfect for any holiday plans!

Polished Patriotic

Maxis are my favorite summer-to-fall dress! They’re extra long for additional coverage, but lightweight and airy enough to keep you cool in the late summer heat. If you’re tall like me, be on the lookout for maxis in extended lengths so that you can pair your dress with wedges. While I’m quite the bargain shopper, there’s nothing wrong with splurging on a nice watch to get the most wear for your money -- and no one does it better than Michael Kors! Add a bracelet or two to your arm candy, like this adorable Kate Spade bow bangle for a polished yet patriotic look, and finish up by styling your hair into a high top knot.

Black and White Casual

If a dress just won’t cut it, you can always opt for shorts. While it may be time to start packing away the cutoffs and denim, tailored linen shorts are the perfect transitional style. Look for a black lace pair, bow-tied trouser shorts, or scalloped cuties like the ones above and add a crisp, white blouse. (Unless you’re sporting head-to-toe white, forget that old adage of wearing white after Labor Day!) This neutral canvas gives the perfect opportunity to have fun with your accessories. I’m obsessed with these adorable Zigi Soho sandals -- they just have a fun, 1920s flair, don’t they?! Complete the look with a chunky bubble necklace, loose fishtail side braid and a natural-colored fedora.

Ladylike Labor Day

If your style is more boho-chic, you’ll be enamored with this flirty look, which is perfect for the typical girly girl. You may be thinking that it’s time to put away the crop tops until next year, but why not layer one with a lightweight, cap sleeve cardigan for some added coverage? After all, if you’ve got it, flaunt it (ALWAYS tastefully, of course)! If the crop top isn’t a good fit for your body type, choose a ruffly tank of similar shape. Roll some light washed denim at the ankle and pair with nude, studded smoking shoes and ladylike cat eye shades. Polish it off with loose curls or beachy waves and you’re ready for whatever the day may bring!

So, what are you up to this holiday weekend and what will you be wearing? How are you transitioning your favorite summer pieces to fall-worthy looks?
