A Runway Recap: Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (Part 2)

While part one of our Runway Recap series focused on the more ladylike looks from “The Week”, part two crosses over to an edgier style that’s sure to please. Designers who typically debut classic, feminine lines turned about-face with menswear-inspired tailoring and more structured lines. These edgy looks truly brought the runway to life with hopes of inspiring fashionistas everywhere to break out of their shells and incorporate some of these modern silhouettes into their spring collections. Some of the jaw-dropping trends that you can expect to see in stores this spring are:

Tangerine Lips

Move over punchy pout! Meet the next beauty trend: tangerine lips. While reds and punchy pinks have been the go-to shades of lipstick for the last few seasons, orange and tangerine will make a statement in spring of 2014. Designers like DKNY, Oscar de la Renta, and Rag & Bone equipped their models with a vibrant tangerine lip to accent ensembles of all print, pattern and color.

Black and White

It was no surprise that this timeless trend found it’s way to the runways at New York Fashion Week. From minimalist to mod, designers like Valentino and Kate Spade all brought their “A” game as they paired this chic trend together for both casual and dressy looks. While this palette first debuted this past spring and carried over into fall, fashionistas can rest assured knowing that this color combo is around for at least another season.

New York Fashion Week runways were also aglow with metallics––but not in the traditional ways you might expect. Designers like Nicole Miller, Zimmermann, and Diane Von Furstenberg have taken ahold of the metallic trend and created a more liquid or fluid look to their designs. From shimmering threads to radiant accessories, models glistened under the lights in stunning metallic skirts, bold pants and flowing dresses.

Boyish Tailoring & Menswear

While feminine florals were the staple of some designer’s showcases, boyish tailoring and menswear-inspired looks were the show-stoppers of others. Tailored suits gave way to new angles for a truly “borrowed from the boys” look, while still incorporating traditional spring trends such as crisp white fabrics and lace. Victoria Beckham and Phillip Lim rocked the runways with these looks, bringing home another fabulous trend for spring 2014.

Although Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has come to an end, we look forward to next spring and hope that our favorite stores deliver the pieces we need to recreate these fabulous looks.
