Let me start off by saying, I highly, highly dislike shorts. Odd huh, since I'm wearing them in this style post. My legs have always been a problem area for me and I've struggled with my perceptions of them for years, always thinking they are bigger than what they probably are. Therefore, I've always steered clear of shorts in general for fear that I would look terrible. It doesn't help that I've always had a smaller waist, which I am super thankful for, but then have what I call "hamhocks" for thighs. This year I've decided to cross the boundary line I've boxed myself in to and try and out my arch nemesis, shorts. (Side note: my mom and sister joke that I'm like Rio the bird–I like my cage and no change. Who's with me!?)
After trying a few different styles, I settled on these beauties from White House Black Market and I fell in love. I still can't believe I'm wearing these, but I love them! They are so comfortable and I've found that the right cut and material can be super flattering. Enjoy this look and I'll continue trying to cross my own personal style boundaries and showcase pieces I normally wouldn't feel comfortable wearing. After all, constantly pushing myself, even if I'm taking baby steps, brings me one step further on my personal style journey. I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes from Grey's Anatomy:
“At some point, you have to make a
decision. Boundaries don't keep other people out. They fence you in.
Life is messy. That's how we're made. So, you can waste your lives
drawing lines. Or you can live your life crossing them.”

Thanks Kylie! As much as it pains me to say, the shorts are super comfortable since they a made out of a ponte cotton material, and the red heels were an awesome addition. I'm partial to the dot cut out all over them. :)
DeleteThose shorts!!! Ahhh so cute. I NEVER wear anything to show my legs cause they are funny shaped and super white. I might have to be brave like you and go get those shorts.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain girl! I'm totally NOT a shorts person, and I'll wear skirts if they hide what I call my "hamhocks". I finally realized that I was limiting myself and have since tried to incorporate pieces into my wardrobe that allow me to branch out a bit. I say go for it! It never hurts to try something new (or at least I remind myself of this constantly!) :)
DeleteLoving this look! These shorts look great on you!!

Oh thank you! It's definitely out of my comfort zone, but I'm trying! I paired them with a peplum top and a denim jacket that are super comfortable so I felt slightly better about them. Ha!
DeleteI usually hate shorts but the ones you are wearing are so cute, I would probably give those a try! They look flattering, too! Or, they do on you, at least :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy! I would highly recommend these shorts hands down! They are soft and provide just the right amount of stretch.
DeleteI would have never thought to pair peplum and striped shorts but it totally works. Love this!
ReplyDeleteYou know what's funny about that, I literally was planning on wearing a plain tank and then ran across this in my closet. It definitely made a cute silhouette. :) Thanks for stopping by Johanna!
DeleteGlad you went out of your comfort zone and wore these shorts! They look super cute on you! Loving that peplum too!

Thanks Rebecca! I was definitely out of my comfort zone but by the end of the day I loved them. I think I've bought no less than 6 pairs of shorts since then. Ha!
DeleteYou look gorgeous! Your outfit is so interesting to look out. I love the cropped denim with the peplum underneath. Stripes are really in right now and the pop of colour is eye catching, it finishes off the look perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorna! I love all things girly and the stripes paired so well with the peplum and the red peep-toes. Thanks for stopping by the blog!
DeletePeplum is one of my favorite types of tops. It looks gorgeous with those shorts!! And girl, for the record, you have killer legs! xo
ReplyDeleteThank you Lauren! Peplum tops are my all-time favorite top. I have a small waist and they really help accentuate my shape. The shorts were definitely daring for me, but thank you so much for the compliments. It's funny how we can be our own worst critics, right?
DeleteYour shoes make the outfit!! Hmmm I want red shoes now!
ReplyDeleteThanks Eliz! I have about three pairs of red shoes in different styles and I love them! They always help to finish off an outfit and add a tiny bit of color to the look.
DeleteCute outfit!
ReplyDeleteThanks Erica! I threw it together haphazardly one morning, knowing I needed something to wear with these shorts. Ha!
DeleteLooking so stunning! I am a big fan of peplum but haven't tried wearing it with shorts. Maybe I'll give it a shot, thanks for the inspo! xoxo
